Little Nightmares III - Review & Impressions
What Little Nightmares III Is
Developer: Supermassive Games (known for Until Dawn, The Dark Pictures) has taken over from Tarsier Studios.
Platforms: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, Nintendo Switch & Switch 2.
Release Date: October 10, 2025.
Core Gameplay: Puzzle-platform / survival-horror, with strong stealth and evasion mechanics. For the first time in the series, online co-op is available (two protagonists: Low and Alone) while solo mode offers an AI companion.

What's Good / Strong Points
1. Atmosphere & Visual Design
Little Nightmares III Game retains that eerie, oppressive, haunting charm the series is known for. The environments are richly detailed - from the creepy Carnevale level to the Necropolis - with grotesque, unsettling monsters. Players report strong mood and art direction.

2. Co-op Is a Major Addition
This is a big deal: series fans have long asked for co-op. Playing with a friend in online co-op enhances puzzle mechanics (Low uses a bow; Alone uses a wrench) and makes many moments more dynamic.
3. Preserving the Core "Nightmares" Feel
Even with new mechanics, they manage to keep you feeling vulnerable. You're not overpowered: you hide, you run, you solve puzzles under threat. That sense of disadvantage remains.
4. Friend's Pass & Accessibility
The Friend's Pass system lets someone join co-op even if they don't own the game. This lowers barriers and makes co-op more accessible.

What's Not as Strong / Criticisms
1. Lack of Local Co-op
Despite the co-op being praised, there is no couch co-op / split-screen option. For many players, that's a missed opportunity. Cooperation works better online, but local screen shared co-op still has a lot of functional and emotional value.
2. "More of the Same" / Few New Innovations
Some reviewers feel LN3 doesn't innovate enough. It sticks closely to series formula: puzzles, atmospheric platforming, escape sequences. That isn't necessarily bad, but for those expecting big changes, it might feel safe.
3. Camera & Depth Perception Issues
Because the game remains side-scroll (2.5D style) with a locked camera, depth perception is sometimes tricky-especially in chase or precision platform segments. Mistiming jumps or misjudging distances can lead to frustration.
4. Short Length & Pacing Gaps
Several reviews point out that it's relatively short (~5 hours) and that there are occasional slow or hollow stretches-sections without much interaction or tension, meant to let atmosphere sink in but sometimes feeling empty.
5. AI Companion Performance / Bugs
When playing solo with AI, sometimes the companion feels less reliable or is slow/unhelpful in certain puzzle or chase moments. Also, especially on less powerful platforms (e.g. Switch 2), performance issues (frame drops, visual fidelity) show up.

Verdict
Little Nightmares III succeeds in delivering what fans of the series want: beautiful, creepy world-building; thematic horror with puzzles and stealth; new co-op mechanics; genuine moments of fear/escape. It's not a radical departure from the older games, which will delight some but disappoint others seeking a bolder evolution. If you liked Little Nightmares 1 or Little Nightmares 2, you'll likely feel at home here-even if you notice some limitations.
